Дата выбрана из-за часто звучащей в фильме и ставшей знаменитой цитаты "May the Force be with you" («Да пребудет с тобой Сила»), которую многие поклонники обыгрывают как May the fourth be with you (англ. fourth — четвёртый и May — май).

The date was chosen because of the often heard in the film and the famous quote "May the Force be with you" ("May the Force be with you"), which many fans play as May the fourth be with you (English: fourth — fourth and May — May).
